Activity 1-Communication

I love this rap!  I would use this (and have used this) when introducing the Declaration of Independence to my students.  I would show this twice, once to intro and then once again at the end of the unit for analysis.

How could a blog be useful in your classroom?

I think that a blog would be a great place to communicate with parents regarding things happening in the classroom.  I also think that a blog would encourage all students to participate and add to a classroom discussion.  Blogs would also work for gathering student input about what activities they enjoyed or what activities we should try in class.  The final way that I see a use for blogs is a place to store videos and links that are important for class but this is one of the ways that I use google classroom so I am not sold on the idea of doubling up.  I have to admit that blogs seem like a bit of extra work because teachers would have to monitor the comments and content of the blog.

  1. I agree with Thyren as well. Maybe it will replace our ineffective webpages so that it can be a little more interactive.

  2. Hey- I love the vid and clever way to use Jib-Jab:) I am also admiring your blog format and design... Cool color tones and the gadgets you've selected make it easy to navigate your blog site finding items easily.

  3. Oh snap! I love the background you chose for your page. I feel mine is so boring. Maybe I can jazz it up like yours!

    1. I am struggling with this....I feel like google classroom can be set up to do everything a blog would do with/for students. The only missing piece would be the parent communication, currently google classroom does not have a parent access option.

  5. I'm thinking the parent portal component will be the next addition to Google Classroom.

  6. I don't love the "blog" interface in Google Classroom and think there needs to be specific blog feature added in that includes discussion rooms and other layout features that make other blog platforms easier on the eye.

  7. Love the video! For what it's worth all HV teachers use blogger as our teacher webpage and I think the majority of us LOVE it. Easy to manage and once it's set up - it's there for years to come with less upkeep. Just shifting things around. We also embed a google calendar into ours for parents (and students) as well, but we don't allow any comments, so parents need to email to communicate with us.
